Kasai Rinkai Park is located in Edogawa Ward(江戸川区）the easternmost of the 23 wards in Tokyo. The ward borders the Chiba Prefecture in the east and borders the Katsushika to the north, Sumida and Koto Wards in the west. It has the highest population of all the wards in Tokyo and the notable point is that 30% of the Indian population in Tokyo reside in this ward.
Kasai Rinkai Park(葛西臨海公園）is located at the south of this ward and overlooks the much more famous Tokyo Disneyland Resort from its tip. The park was developed from 1972 be reclaiming part of the sea around the Kasai Coast and opened to the public on June 1, 1989. The Aquarium opened in October and the Seaside hotel in December the same year.
The Park has undergone a few developments and redevelopments over the years the last one in 2019 when the McDonalds and Hidakaya Restaurants closed to give way to a swankier building with a Starbucks, a Hawaiian Burger joint, a food court and a few shops.
There is an unhurried feel about the park and on the less crowded week days one can find isolated spots in the park to sit back and relax in the quietness.
Weekends are crowded with families visiting the park, the Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel, the Park Train, large lawns and the beach are of interest to the children.
The Covid epidemic has shuttered the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium however as the government withdraws the emergency measures and removes restrictions the Aquarium should open once gain with its special attraction of penguins to delight the kids.
The Chourien, Bird Watching Tower is of interest to the hobbyists and photographers as the migrating birds stop by at the artificial pond and marshes in the park.
The Crystal View Observatory a three storied glass building provides a view across the park and into the Tokyo Bay.
The park also has a disembarkation point for the Tokyo Mizube Cruising Line for the Ryogoku-Kasai and the Odaiba-Kasai cruise routes.
The Cherry Blossom season adds beauty to the park with a tree lined path turning a bowered pink in full bloom.
